thirtydreamingcatsonline: (another dress)

When I joined Livejournal back in 2004, I was a 31-year-old mother with a child soon to be turning three.

Now here I am on Dreamwidth as an almost 50-year-old, and the child is 20 and in college.

Explanation of my screen name: It's kind of a mix of my past screen names. Because I was too overwhelmed to come up with something new.

Thirty and the Cats is from Thirty Cats, which comes from a novel I wrote back in 1999 or 2000. I've since used that title for various screen names, including my first Livejournal and Instagram.

Dreaming comes from The Dream Games, a novel I wrote in high school and the screen name I used for my second Livejournal.

The Online part comes from my most recently written novel. I wrote it in 2014 so not actually so recent anymore. It's called The Dead are Online

I'm excited to be here...and cautiously hopeful. But a part of me is sad, because I feel I'm trying to recreate the past, and I worry I'll be disappointed.

The past several months I've been reading my LiveJournal along with some of the comments. Out of all the very lovely people I connected with, only one is still in my life...and barely so. I think I have this deep-down fantasy, that they will all come to Dreamwidth, and we'll be reunited. I think it's okay to have these feelings, but I don't want them to get in the way of enjoying new journaling experiences and relationships.

Your comment about LiveJournal struck me because as part of [community profile] marchmetamatterschallenge last month I had been going through old entries one by one. It was remarkable to see the mix of names over time. Some I had interacted with quite often, others on occasion. A few are still around, though less regularly. But some just disappeared. I think that life issues disrupted things for many of them, but for others it may have been just going to different platforms or leaving fandom.

Over these last few years quite a lot of people have revisited old stomping grounds, a combination of changed conditions, free time or nostalgia. Some just popped in and out but others have, I think, doubled down on places that gave them some positive vibes during tough times.

Not a bad idea, and some people may very well be getting emails, they're just not around.
